Welcome to the Ordinary Lives Website. My name is Matthew and on behalf of the project team I would like to thank you for visiting us. But what is this website for?

Very simply it has been set up to celebrate all the really good work that we have been doing jointly with some with our local schools in Southend. We have run an Ordinary Lives Schools Competition to help raise the level of awareness within the community about people with a learning disability. The main message we wanted to give was that people with a learning disability can, if given the opportunity and correct support, achieve many of the things that you do in your “Ordinary Lives” everyday. So please celebrate with us all the fantastic presentations that have taken place then please join us on our journey

Some of the things we want to achieve following the completion of the competition and the setting up of this Website are;

• We want to encourage as many people to celebrate and find out more about our project
• We want you to share your projects or link them through this site with us
• We want to encourage new projects which rise awareness and reduce barriers to develop in different areas in the country.

If we achieve this then;

• This would all help reduce the barriers that people with a learning disability have in living “Ordinary Lives”
• Make more people aware that It is society that disables an individual not their disability
• Give more people with learning disability the opportunity and the right support so that they can achieve their dreams and aspirations
